Artifacts from the assault on Lachish, 701 BC,
Iron and bone arrowheads, round sling stones with re-constructed sling, pieces of a metal axe head and sword, olive seeds, and a clay prism on which the Assyrians recorded the attack.

As projectile weapons, slings had a longer range than bow and arrow, and the siege reliefs show that the sling men stood behind the archers.
