Captured camels, around 728 BC, Nimrud Central Palace
The woman on the left, and the herd of one-humped arabian camels, are part of a procession of prisoners and booty captured during one of the campaigns of Tiglath-pileser III against Arab enemies. Women prisoners in Assyrian pictures usually hold one hand over their face, probably a sign of distress and unhappiness (cf. 2Sam 13:19).
